Rhinoplasty

Nose reshaping surgery for aesthetic or functional improvement.

Rhinoplasty reshapes the nose for cosmetic improvement or to correct breathing problems. The procedure can reduce or increase size, change the shape of the tip or bridge, narrow the nostrils, or correct asymmetry. Functional rhinoplasty (septoplasty) corrects a deviated septum that obstructs breathing, and is often combined with cosmetic changes. Modern rhinoplasty uses either an "open" approach (small incision across the columella for maximum visibility) or "closed" approach (all incisions inside the nose). Computer imaging helps patients and surgeons agree on goals before surgery. The procedure takes 1–3 hours under general anesthesia.
