Blepharoplasty (eyelid surgery) removes excess skin, muscle, and sometimes fat from the upper and/or lower eyelids. The procedure can be cosmetic, functional (when drooping eyelids obstruct vision), or both. Incisions are hidden within the natural crease of the upper eyelid or just below the lash line of the lower lid, healing to become nearly invisible. The procedure takes 1–2 hours and can be performed under local anesthesia with sedation. Results are long-lasting — typically 7–15 years.
