Drainless Tummy Tuck (Abdominoplasty)

Type

Tummy Tuck

Duration

3 hours

Dr. David Azouz performs a signature drainless tummy tuck using quilting sutures and tissue glue in place of traditional drainage tubes, reducing post-operative discomfort and recovery complexity. The procedure removes excess abdominal skin and fat, repairs diastasis recti (separated abdominal muscles), repositions the navel, and optionally incorporates liposuction to the surrounding flanks. Performed under local anaesthesia with sedation rather than general anaesthesia. Light activities are typically resumed within one to two weeks. A mini tummy tuck option is also available for patients with concerns limited to the lower abdomen.

Azouz Plastic and Cosmetic Surgery is a recognised centre for abdominoplasty in the Dallas–Fort Worth area, with Dr. David Azouz's drainless tummy tuck technique distinguishing the practice from conventional approaches. Traditional abdominoplasty places one or more drain tubes under the skin at the close of surgery to collect fluid accumulation (seroma) as the undermined tissue re-adheres over the following days. Dr. Azouz's technique replaces drain tubes with progressive tension quilting sutures and tissue glue, which mechanically eliminate the dead space between the abdominal skin flap and the underlying fascia, preventing fluid accumulation without the need for external drains. This approach removes a significant source of post-operative discomfort and simplifies the recovery process for patients, who no longer need to empty and record drain output. The procedure addresses the full range of concerns presented by post-weight-loss, post-pregnancy, or age-related abdominal changes: a horizontal incision placed low at the bikini line allows removal of the excess skin and fat panel below the navel; diastasis recti (vertical separation of the rectus abdominis muscles, a common consequence of pregnancy) is repaired by plicating the midline fascia; and the umbilicus is repositioned through a new opening in the tightened skin at an anatomically natural height (umbilicoplasty). Circumferential liposuction of the flanks, hips, and surrounding areas is optionally performed to refine the final contour and transition zone. Dr. Azouz performs standard abdominoplasty under local anaesthesia with sedation rather than general anaesthesia — a distinction he highlights as improving patient safety and reducing recovery time. A mini tummy tuck is available for patients whose concerns are limited to the lower abdomen (below the navel), allowing a shorter incision and faster recovery. Compression garments are worn for several weeks post-operatively. Abdominal wall reconstruction and diastasis recti repair are also performed as isolated procedures when indicated. Post-operative visits are included in the surgical fee.
