ThermiSmooth is a non-invasive radiofrequency skin tightening platform from Thermi Aesthetics offered at Dr. Cat Plastic Surgery as part of a non-surgical skin quality and laxity management programme. The ThermiSmooth handpiece uses monopolar radiofrequency energy delivered through a smooth, rounded surface-contact applicator that is glided across the skin with a continuous movement pattern — unlike microneedling-based RF devices that require skin penetration, ThermiSmooth transmits RF energy transcutaneously, meaning the surface of the skin is not disrupted during treatment. The RF energy penetrates into the dermis and the deep reticular dermis, heating the collagen-rich layers to a therapeutic thermal threshold (typically 40–42°C at tissue level as monitored by a built-in temperature feedback system that controls energy output to maintain the target range). At this temperature, two biological responses are triggered: immediate collagen contraction (visible tightening in some patients after a single session) and, over the following weeks to months, a wound-healing cascade that stimulates fibroblasts to synthesise new collagen and elastin, progressively improving tissue architecture and skin laxity. ThermiSmooth Face targets the delicate periocular (crow's feet, under-eye, and lower brow) and perioral (upper lip lines, marionette lines) skin — areas where injectable treatments are frequently used but where patients seek a non-injectable complementary option with no risk of bruising at the injection site. ThermiSmooth Body targets anatomical zones where post-partum or weight-related skin laxity is a concern — the lower abdomen, inner thighs, upper arms, and bra line — providing a non-surgical tightening option for patients not yet ready for surgical skin excision.
