Type
PRP Hair Treatment
Duration
30 min
Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) scalp injections using the patient's own blood-derived growth factors to support hair follicle activity and reduce shedding in androgenetic alopecia and traction alopecia. An initial series of four to five sessions, each approximately thirty minutes, is spaced one month apart. Maintenance sessions quarterly or annually are recommended to sustain results. No synthetic chemicals — autologous only. Administered by Dr. Michele S. Green at her Upper East Side Manhattan clinic.
Dr. Michele Green's PRP hair restoration programme draws on the growth factor-rich platelet fraction of the patient's own blood to create a concentrated biostimulatory solution injected directly into the scalp at the level of the hair follicle bulb. The protocol begins with a small blood draw, typically 20–30 mL, which is centrifuged to separate the plasma layer containing a high concentration of platelets and their associated growth factors — including platelet-derived growth factor (PDGF), vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF), epidermal growth factor (EGF), and transforming growth factor-beta (TGF-β). This PRP fraction is then injected at multiple sites across the thinning scalp using a fine needle, targeting follicles in the telogen (resting) phase with the goal of shortening the rest phase and supporting transition to the anagen (active growth) phase. The growth factors in PRP are thought to support the dermal papilla cells that regulate follicle cycling, promote microvascularisation of the follicular unit, and reduce the miniaturisation of follicle diameter associated with androgenetic alopecia. Dr. Green has experience treating both male- and female-pattern hair loss, as well as traction alopecia — a form of hair loss caused by chronic tension on follicles from tight hairstyles. Sessions run approximately thirty minutes including preparation. An initial series of four to five monthly sessions is recommended to build and sustain the growth factor stimulus; after the induction phase, quarterly or annual maintenance sessions are offered. Approximately $1,200 per session based on 2024 cited market data for this practice. All pricing confirmed at consultation.
