Body hair transplant (BHT) using CIT® to harvest donor grafts from non-scalp sources such as the beard, chest, or other body areas. Suitable for patients with insufficient scalp donor density — including those who have undergone prior hair transplants that have depleted scalp donor supply. Body hair grafts are combined with the CIT® extraction method to expand total available donor hair for larger restoration cases.

Body Hair Transplant (BHT) at ForHair NYC extends the principle of follicular unit extraction beyond the traditional scalp donor area, offering patients with limited or depleted scalp donor density an alternative source of transplantable hair follicles. The most commonly used donor sites are the beard (particularly the sub-mental and lateral neck areas, which produce terminal hair of similar calibre to scalp follicles) and the chest (which yields finer-calibre hair, often used to add density rather than as a primary graft source). BHT is particularly relevant for patients who have previously undergone one or more hair transplant sessions that have significantly reduced their available occipital and parietal scalp donor supply, or for patients with advanced Norwood VI–VII hair loss who have large recipient areas that cannot be adequately covered by scalp donor alone. The CIT® technique is adapted for body donor extraction — the manual punch instruments are calibrated to the different exit angles and follicular unit configurations of beard and chest follicles, which differ structurally from scalp follicles. Body hair follicles harvested with CIT® are combined with any available scalp grafts and implanted according to the recipient area coverage plan developed at consultation. A key consideration is that body hair, particularly chest hair, may have a different growth cycle and characteristic (finer, shorter terminal length) compared to scalp hair, so the treating doctor discusses expected results and blending strategy during the pre-procedure consultation with Dr. Cole.
