Microneedling uses a device with very fine needles to create thousands of tiny, controlled micro-channels in the skin. These small, superficial injuries are associated with the skin's natural wound-healing response, prompting renewal that can firm the surface and refine its texture over the following weeks. The same micro-channels also allow active serums applied during treatment to penetrate more effectively than they would on intact skin. At MJAesthetic the skin is cleansed and a numbing cream applied before treatment, which takes around thirty to forty-five minutes depending on the area. Expect redness similar to mild sunburn for a day or two, after which the skin looks fresher and, over a few weeks, smoother and more even. It is well suited to uneven texture, enlarged pores, fine lines and the appearance of mild-to-moderate scarring or stretch marks, and a course of around three sessions spaced about four weeks apart is recommended for these concerns. Strict sun protection afterwards is important. Microneedling is avoided over active acne, infection or broken skin and in pregnancy; the practitioner confirms suitability beforehand.
