Platelet-rich fibrin (PRF) builds on the same idea as PRP but uses a different preparation. A small blood sample is spun gently and without anticoagulant, which allows the platelets, white cells and fibrin to form a soft, three-dimensional matrix. Because the growth factors are held within this fibrin scaffold, they are associated with a slower, more sustained release once placed in the skin, which is why PRF is often described as a longer-acting evolution of PRP. At MJAesthetic the process of drawing the blood, preparing the fibrin and treating takes around forty-five to sixty minutes, with numbing for comfort. As with PRP, the material is entirely your own, so there is no foreign product involved and tolerability is generally very good; expect mild redness or small bruises for a day or two.
