Mole Removal

Type

Mole Removal

Duration

30 min

Specialist mole assessment and removal by a Consultant Dermatologist. Dermoscopic evaluation to determine mole characteristics followed by surgical excision or laser removal as appropriate.

Mole removal at Naaman Skin and Laser Centre is performed by Dr Khoo Boo Peng, a Consultant Dermatologist with specific expertise in lesion assessment and cosmetic/surgical removal techniques. The process begins with a thorough clinical examination of the mole, often using dermoscopy — a handheld device that magnifies and illuminates the lesion to assess its structural features. This is critical for distinguishing benign moles from atypical or potentially malignant lesions requiring biopsy or wider excision. Benign moles suitable for removal can be treated via surgical shave excision, punch excision, or ablative laser depending on the location, size, and depth. Surgical excision specimens are sent for histopathological analysis to confirm the diagnosis — standard practice for any removed pigmented lesion. The procedure is performed under local anaesthetic, minimising discomfort. Post-removal wound care instructions are provided, and sutures (where used) are removed at a follow-up visit. For cosmetically sensitive areas such as the face or neck, Dr Khoo employs techniques designed to minimise scarring. The clinic also addresses raised, irritated, or symptomatic moles for both adults and children. Patients with a family history of melanoma or multiple atypical moles can request a full skin check to assess their mole burden and identify any lesions warranting close monitoring or removal.
