Insomnia & Sleep Disorder Treatment

Type

Sleep Therapy

Duration

1 hour

Specialist psychiatric assessment and treatment of insomnia and sleep disorders, including pharmacological sleep management, investigation of underlying mood or anxiety drivers, and referral for CBT for insomnia (CBT-I).

PsyWellness Clinic offers specialist psychiatric evaluation and treatment of insomnia and sleep disorders under Dr Lim Boon Leng, an MOH-accredited psychiatrist who regularly treats insomnia as both a primary condition and a comorbidity of depression, anxiety, ADHD, bipolar disorder, and chronic stress. Unlike a GP sleep review, a psychiatric evaluation for insomnia involves a comprehensive assessment of sleep architecture, circadian rhythm patterns, mental state, mood, and any organic contributors (e.g., thyroid dysfunction, sleep apnoea screening referral). Diagnostic investigations including blood work and, where indicated, hormonal level testing are available to exclude physiological causes. Treatment is individualised: for primary insomnia, Dr Lim may initiate short-term pharmacological support (sleep aids, low-dose sedating antidepressants, or anxiolytics where anxiety-driven insomnia is present) alongside referral to partner psychologists for Cognitive Behavioural Therapy for Insomnia (CBT-I), the gold-standard first-line psychological intervention for chronic insomnia. For insomnia secondary to a psychiatric condition, treatment targets the primary diagnosis concurrently. The practice is particularly suited to patients whose insomnia has not responded to GP-level management, those with suspected psychiatric comorbidity, and patients seeking a thorough investigation rather than a repeat prescription. The clinic sees adults and older adults, with specific expertise in sleep changes in the elderly. All appointments are by booking only, and urgent slots can be arranged for distressing acute insomnia presentations.
