PURE Medical Spa uses the Venus Viva — a fractional radiofrequency (RF) microneedling device by Venus Concept — for skin resurfacing treatments at its Gold Coast Chicago clinic. Venus Viva combines two mechanisms of action: micro-injuries created by a matrix of insulated microneedles and simultaneous delivery of radiofrequency thermal energy through those needle channels into the dermis. This dual mechanism makes Venus Viva a more aggressive remodelling tool than standard microneedling (which delivers mechanical injury only) while remaining controllable and adjustable per treatment zone. The microneedles penetrate to a pre-set depth, and RF energy is released at the needle tip within the dermis, creating focal thermal zones of collagen denaturation. These controlled injury foci trigger a wound-healing cascade: fibroblast activation, new collagen synthesis (primarily types I and III), and tissue remodelling over 4–8 weeks post-treatment. Compared to ablative or fractional laser resurfacing, Venus Viva delivers thermal energy below the skin surface via insulated needles, leaving the epidermis largely intact and reducing post-treatment pigmentation risk — making it suitable across a broader range of skin tones including darker Fitzpatrick types (IV–VI) that carry higher risk of post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation with laser treatments.
