Infrared Sauna

Type

Sauna

Duration

30 min

Private infrared sauna sessions using far-infrared wavelengths to penetrate muscle tissue, promote circulation, aid detoxification, and support deep relaxation — without the high ambient temperatures of traditional saunas.

SPHERE's infrared saunas use far-infrared (FIR) radiant heat at wavelengths of approximately 5–14 microns, which penetrate 3–4 cm into body tissue — significantly deeper than the surface-level heat of a traditional Finnish or steam sauna. This deeper tissue penetration produces a more intense sweat at a lower ambient temperature (typically 45–65°C vs 80–100°C for traditional saunas), making the experience more accessible and comfortable for a wider range of users, including those who find conventional saunas oppressive. Clinical and sports science literature supports infrared sauna use for: improved cardiovascular function (mimicking moderate-intensity aerobic exercise via increased heart rate and cardiac output), enhanced muscle relaxation, reduced cortisol, and improved sleep quality when used in the evening. Regular infrared sauna sessions have also been associated with improved skin health through increased collagen production and enhanced circulation. At SPHERE, infrared sauna sessions are offered as standalone bookings or as part of a thermal contrast protocol alongside the cold plunge pools. The sauna cabins are designed for one to two occupants, providing a private, relaxing environment. Sessions typically run 20–45 minutes depending on the client's goals and tolerance. SPHERE's staff can advise on session duration, hydration, and optimal sequencing with other modalities.
