Laser hair removal using FDA-cleared Candela, Cynosure, and Cutera devices across a full range of body areas at price-points from $79 for small areas to $399 for large areas per session. Permanent hair reduction is achieved through selective photothermolysis targeting melanin in the hair follicle bulb. StudioMD's licensed laser technicians and physicians treat at SoHo and Midtown Manhattan locations with over 16 years of laser experience.
Laser hair removal at StudioMD uses selective photothermolysis to deliver laser energy at wavelengths preferentially absorbed by melanin in the hair shaft and follicle matrix — primarily the 755 nm alexandrite (Candela GentleLase), 810 nm diode, and 1064 nm Nd:YAG wavelengths used across the Candela, Cynosure, and Cutera devices the clinic operates. When laser energy is absorbed by the melanin chromophore in the hair follicle's bulb and bulge regions during the hair's active growth phase (anagen), the generated heat diffuses to the surrounding follicular stem cells and matrix, causing sufficient thermal damage to impair the follicle's capacity to produce future hair — a process termed selective photothermolysis when the thermal relaxation time of the follicle is matched with the laser pulse duration. Because only hairs in the anagen growth phase are effectively treated, multiple sessions spaced four to six weeks apart are required to treat successive cohorts of follicles as they enter anagen. Typically six to eight sessions achieve approximately 80 to 90% permanent hair reduction. The 1064 nm Nd:YAG wavelength is particularly suitable for darker Fitzpatrick skin types (IV–VI) as it is less efficiently absorbed by epidermal melanin, improving the safety margin. Pricing at StudioMD: small areas (lip, chin, sideburns, toes, fingers, nose, hairline) $79–$150; medium areas (underarms, bikini line, lower face, stomach, neck) $150–$250; large areas (full arms, half legs, shoulders, Brazilian) $250–$350; XL areas (full legs, chest, full back) $350–$399. A cold gel or air cooling is applied during treatment to protect the epidermis and increase comfort. Temporary erythema and follicular oedema resolve within 24 hours.
