Microneedling with DermaPen or DermaRoller creates controlled micro-injuries in the skin to stimulate the body's natural collagen and elastin repair response. Microneedling at StudioMD uses a DermaPen automated microneedling device or DermaRoller to create a precise array of micro-channels in the skin at an adjustable needle depth typically ranging from 0.5 mm to 2.5 mm, depending on the area treated and the specific concern being addressed. These micro-injuries — too small and numerous to cause scarring themselves — trigger a wound-healing cascade: the immediate release of growth factors from platelets and epidermal keratinocytes stimulates fibroblast migration and proliferation in the dermis, followed by the synthesis of new collagen (primarily type I and III) and elastin over the following weeks and months. The micro-channels created also temporarily increase the permeability of the skin barrier, allowing topically applied serums — such as hyaluronic acid, growth factors, or peptide-based compounds — to penetrate into the dermis at higher concentrations than they could achieve through intact skin. At StudioMD, microneedling is priced at $350 per session and can be combined with PRFM (platelet-rich fibrin matrix, autologous growth factors prepared from the patient's own blood), Rejuran (polynucleotide solution with reported regenerative properties), or radiofrequency energy for additive collagen stimulation.
