The Oaks Plastic Surgery Houston med spa offers platelet-rich plasma (PRP) facial treatments — often called vampire facials — using the patient's own concentrated growth factors to support skin renewal and collagen synthesis. A small blood draw is centrifuged to produce plasma enriched with platelets, which is then applied topically after microneedling or micro-injected into the dermis. PRP may support improvement in skin texture, fine lines, dullness, and early laxity. Fully autologous — no synthetic substances involved. A series of two to three sessions is recommended for progressive results.
Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) facial treatments at The Oaks Plastic Surgery Houston harness the regenerative signalling potential of the patient's own blood-derived growth factor concentrate to support skin renewal and structural improvement. The procedure begins with a small venous blood draw — typically 10–20 mL — collected into specialised collection tubes that may contain anticoagulant (for standard PRP) or no additive (for platelet-rich fibrin, PRF). The tube is centrifuged to separate blood components by density: red blood cells are pelleted at the tube base, a concentrated platelet-rich plasma layer forms in the middle zone, and platelet-poor plasma occupies the top layer. The PRP fraction — containing platelets at three to five times their physiological concentration in whole blood — is extracted and either applied topically over micro-needled skin or introduced into the dermis via a series of superficial micro-injections across the treatment area. Platelets are the body's primary reservoir of growth factors: upon activation, they release platelet-derived growth factor (PDGF), which stimulates fibroblast proliferation; transforming growth factor beta (TGF-β), which promotes collagen synthesis and remodelling; vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF), which supports new capillary formation; epidermal growth factor (EGF), which promotes keratinocyte migration and re-epithelialisation; and insulin-like growth factor (IGF-1), which amplifies the anabolic effects of other growth signals. When delivered into the dermis, these signals bind to receptors on local fibroblasts, endothelial cells, and stem cells, activating synthesis of collagen, elastin, and hyaluronic acid within the treated zone. Clinical outcomes that patients may experience include improved skin texture and reflectivity, softening of fine lines, reduced appearance of shallow acne scars, and an overall improvement in skin quality and radiance. PRF (platelet-rich fibrin), the second-generation autologous concentrate, forms a slow-release fibrin matrix that holds growth factors in the tissue for a more extended delivery window than liquid PRP. Because PRP and PRF are prepared entirely from the patient's own blood, there is no risk of allergic reaction or immune response. The vampire facial at TOPS is most commonly performed in combination with microneedling, delivered through the open micro-channels immediately following the needling pass to maximise dermal penetration of the concentrate.
PRP vampire facial approximately $500–$700 per session at the Houston market rate. May be booked as a standalone or combined with microneedling at an add-on rate. Series of two to three sessions recommended for optimal skin quality improvement.
