Samitivej Hospital, founded in 1979 by Khun Bancha Lamsam and M.R. Bajarisan Jumbala, M.D., is Thailand's premier private hospital group. The name "Samitivej" meaning "assembly of doctors" was bestowed by former Prime Minister M.R. Kukrit Pramoj. Samitivej made history as the only hospital group in Thailand to achieve JCI accreditation for all its hospitals (since 2007). In 1999, it became the first hospital in Thailand to receive WHO and UNICEF recognition as a Mother-and-Baby Friendly Hospital. The group also holds the distinction of being the first hospital outside Japan to receive JCQHC accreditation. With 7 hospitals across Thailand, Samitivej operates 275+ bed tertiary facilities staffed by over 400 care specialists. The group was recognized by the Medical Travel Quality Alliance (MTQUA) as one of the Top 5 World Hospitals for Medical Tourism in 2018.
