Skin and Cancer Foundation Melbourne — now trading as Skin Health Institute — is a not-for-profit dermatology organisation established in 1987, located at Level 1, 80 Drummond Street, Carlton. The institute operates more than twenty specialist clinics covering skin cancer assessment, Mohs micrographic surgery, laser and vascular treatments, acne, atopic dermatitis, hair loss, hyperhidrosis, melanoma, and occupational dermatology. Therapeutic services include photodynamic therapy and phototherapy. The Laser Clinic is conducted by Dr Belinda Welsh FACD and covers ablative laser procedures, vascular laser therapy, rhinophyma treatment, scar revision, pigment disorder treatment, and xanthelasma removal. The Skin Cancer Assessment Clinic runs Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday, staffed by a panel of associate professors and specialist dermatologists. All clinical care is provided on a private-billing basis with Medicare applicable where a valid referral exists. The institute is open Monday to Thursday 8 am – 6 pm and Friday 8 am – 5 pm.

Skin Cancer Assessment

Specialist dermatologist assessment of suspicious skin lesions for early detection of melanoma, keratinocyte cancers, and other skin conditions. Conducted at the Skin Cancer Assessment Clinic by a panel of associate professors and FACD dermatologists. Runs Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday. GP referral required. Positive findings may be referred to Mohs Surgery or Advanced Surgery Clinics.

Photodynamic therapy for the treatment of actinic keratoses, superficial basal cell carcinoma, and field cancerisation. A photosensitising agent is applied to the skin and activated by a specific wavelength of light to selectively destroy abnormal cells.
