Specialist dermatologist assessment of suspicious skin lesions for early detection of melanoma, keratinocyte cancers, and other skin conditions. Conducted at the Skin Cancer Assessment Clinic by a panel of associate professors and FACD dermatologists. Runs Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday. GP referral required. Positive findings may be referred to Mohs Surgery or Advanced Surgery Clinics.

Located at Level 1, 80 Drummond Street, Carlton in Melbourne, the clinic is one of Australia's most established not-for-profit dermatology services and has been operating since 1987. The skin cancer assessment process involves clinical examination and dermoscopic evaluation of lesions to classify them according to risk — distinguishing benign lesions from actinic keratoses, squamous cell carcinoma, basal cell carcinoma, and melanoma. Patients with higher-risk findings may be referred internally to the Advanced Surgery Clinic for excision or to the Mohs Micrographic Surgery Clinic for complex or cosmetically sensitive cases where tissue-sparing excision is required. The clinic runs on a referral pathway from GPs and other treating clinicians; a valid referral allows Medicare billing to apply to the specialist consultation, reducing out-of-pocket cost.
